This documentation provides detailed procedures for installing the Cisco Catalyst 8500L-8S4X Edge Platform in an equipment rack. Whether you are using a two-post rack or a four-post rack, it is essential to follow the guidelines carefully to ensure proper installation and optimal performance.
Equipment Rack Requirements #
Two-Post Rack #
When using a two-post rack, it must be either 19 inches or 23 inches wide. The inner clearance between the two posts or rails should be at least 19 inches (48.26 cm) or 23 inches (58.42 cm). The airflow through the chassis should be from the I/O side to the PSU side.
Four-Post, 19-Inch Rack #
For a four-post rack that is 19 inches wide, the inner clearance between the two posts or rails must be at least 19 inches (48.26 cm). The airflow through the chassis should be from front to back.
Installation Steps #
Step 1: Preparing the Equipment Rack #
Before installing the Cisco Catalyst 8500L-8S4X Edge Platform, ensure that the equipment rack meets the specified requirements mentioned above. If needed, adjust the inner clearance of the rack to the appropriate width.
Step 2: Positioning the Edge Platform #
Carefully place the Cisco Catalyst 8500L-8S4X Edge Platform in the designated location within the rack. Ensure that the chassis alignment is correct with the rack mounting points.
Step 3: Securing the Edge Platform #
Use the provided screws or bolts to secure the Edge Platform to the rack. Ensure that the device is firmly attached to prevent any movement during operation.
