This guide outlines the process for upgrading the firmware on your Wireless Access Point (WAP). Keeping firmware updated improves performance and provides new features. You can upgrade using either HTTP/HTTPS or TFTP.
Important Tip: Use a wired connection for your computer during the upgrade to prevent interruptions.

- WAP131: 1.0.2.8
- WAP150: 1.0.1.7
- WAP321: 1.0.6.5
- WAP351: 1.0.2.8
- WAP361: 1.0.1.7
- WAP371: 1.3.0.3
- WAP551: 1.2.1.3
- WAP561: 1.2.1.3
(Ensure you have downloaded the latest firmware file from the Cisco website before starting.)
Method 1: Upgrade via HTTP/HTTPS #
- Access the WAP’s web-based utility and navigate to Administration > Manage Firmware.
- Select the HTTP/HTTPS radio button under Transfer Method.
- The current active and inactive firmware versions are shown.
- Click Choose File and select the downloaded firmware
.tar
file.- Only

files are supported. - Filenames cannot contain spaces or special characters.

- Click Upgrade.
- The upload takes several minutes. Do not refresh or leave the page.
- The WAP will restart automatically after the upgrade. You may need to manually refresh your browser if the login page doesn’t appear after about six minutes.
- Confirm the action by clicking OK.
- The WAP will be temporarily unavailable. Do not power it off.
- Your configuration will be saved.
- Monitor the upgrade progress displayed on the page.
- Verify the upgrade by logging back in and checking Administration > Manage Firmware. The new version will be listed as the Active Firmware Version.
Method 2: Upgrade via TFTP #
- Access the WAP’s web-based utility and navigate to Administration > Manage Firmware.
- Select the TFTP radio button under Transfer Method.
- Enter the path and filename of the firmware file in the Source File Name field.
- The limit is 1 to 256 characters.

files are supported. - Filenames cannot contain spaces or special characters.
- Enter the TFTP server’s IPv4 address in the TFTP Server IPv4 Address field.
- Click Upgrade.
- The upload takes several minutes. Do not refresh or leave the page.
- The WAP will restart automatically after the upgrade. You may need to manually refresh your browser if the login page doesn’t appear after about six minutes.
- Confirm the action by clicking OK.
- The WAP will be temporarily unavailable. Do not power it off.
- Your configuration will be saved.
