To create high-scale architectures, the new HPE SN8700B 64Gb 64p FC blade scales the SN8700B 8-slot guides to 512 x 64G ports and the SN8700B 4-slot guides to 256 x 64G ports. This blade increases total system bandwidth to 39.6Tb/s to handle more workloads, making it ideal for large enterprise infrastructures. The HPE SN8700B 64Gb 64p FC blade uses SFP-DD transceivers to enable more than 33% device connectivity in very dense spaces. Each SFP-DD port provides two ports for device or ISL connectivity with SN connectors, each with independently configurable port speeds. These ports are capable of 2 x 64G, 32G, or 16G using SFP-DD transceivers, or 64G, 32G, 16G, or 8G using SFP+ transceivers. with this highly efficient, high-density design of the blade, organisations can consolidate more device connectivity into a single fabric and reduce capital expenditures by consuming less rack space. By using fewer chassis, it reduces operating costs through lower power consumption, cooling and management. With industry-leading port densities and increased bandwidth, organisations can efficiently scale to meet data growth demands and increase efficiency by maximising space utilisation, leaving room for future expansion of demanding IT applications.
Chassis connectivity utilises fibre-optic inter-chassis links (ICLs), providing 128 Gbps bandwidth over QSFP links. These links can support distances of up to 2 kilometres and connect up to 9 SN8700B chassis in a full mesh topology and up to 12 SN8700B chassis in a core-edge topology, enabling a flatter, faster, and simpler architecture that improves consolidation while reducing network complexity and cost.
UltraScale ICLs are QSFP-based and support scalable core edge and mesh chassis topologies. These high-density chassis topologies can reduce inter-switch cabling by up to 75 percent. Because UltraScale ICL connectivity resides on the core routing blades rather than occupying ports on the port blades, up to 33 percent more device ports are available for server and storage connectivity. This maximises overall port density in minimal rack space while freeing up front device ports for server and storage connectivity.
The SN8700B 8-slot guide supports 32 4X50Gb ICL ports, equivalent to 128 ports, while the SN8700B 4-slot guide supports 16 4X50Gb ICL ports, equivalent to 64 ports. The SN87000B ICL is backward compatible to the SN8600B ICL ports, including 2 km of QSFP connections at 32 Gbps (4×32) or 16 Gbps (4×16) to the SN8000B.
